The residents claimed that due to the drought the people were facing untold hardships because of the water scarcity.

According to the Mulaithivu district Disaster Management Centre due to the drought in the Mulaithivu district in  134 Grama Niladhari Division,  35,730 families comprising 1,15.308 individuals were affected by the drought.

The worst affected were those in the Puthikudiiruppu Secretariat Division in the Mulaithivu district. 36,951 persons belonging to 11,827 families in that division were affected.
