Aloysius defaulted Rs. 380 m excise tax payment! Featured

Arjun Aloysius, son-in-law of former Central Bank governor Arjun Mahendran, has defaulted Rs. 380 million excise tax that was due by July 15 from his distilleries, the Anti-Corruption Front alleges.

By July 31, the outstanding excise tax payment he has to meet is nearly Rs. 600 million, ACF convener Wasantha Wamarasinghe says.

Mahendran should compulsorily have paid the taxes every 15 days, he says.

Although he defaults payments, the excise commissioner had renewed the licenses of the distilleries, which will expire today (31), says Samarasinghe.

He alleges these frauds are having the blessings of government politicians, noting that Aloysius had given a luxury apartment to minister Ravi Karunanayake as gratification.
