Court orders arrest of acquitted Navy man Featured

The court of appeal yesterday (27) ordered the immediate arrest of Lt. Commander Prasad Chandana Hettiarachchi, one of the three Navy officers who have been acquitted in the MP Nadaraja Raviraj murder case.

The court was taking up a revised petition filed by Raviraj’s widow, Shashikala.

The Colombo high court on December 24, on a decision by a seven-member Sinhala jury, cleared the accused of the charges.

In her petition, Shashikala seeks a retrial without a jury, claiming the case had been filed under the prevention of terrorism act and it was against the law to hear it with a jury.
