‘It is enough if Trump does not poke his fingers in int’l affairs’ Featured

The Sri Lankan government says it will be important for world peace if US president-elect Donald Trump abides by his promises and statements.

The remark by government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne came at the cabinet news briefing in Colombo today (09) in response to a question raised by BBC Sinhala Service.

Trump’s win is a win by the people against power and he campaigned like we do, he said.

Before going to resolve int’l affairs...

The new US leader will do a favour for world peace if he minds his home affairs before going to resolve international issues, and also by agreeing with Russian president Vladimir Putin, said Senartatne.

Donald Trump has to do nothing. It is enough if he stops poking his fingers in international affairs, he stressed.

Nationalist campaigning won him presidency, he said and answered another question by saying that what Sri Lanka had was not nationalism, but racism.

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has close ties with Trump’s Republican Party, he also said, adding that Sri Lanka could expect an advantageous situation at the UNHRC due to Trump’s election.
