Joint opposition to remain a member Featured

The joint opposition says it will remain a member of the Constitutional Council and its steering committee.

The JO has decided to allow its affiliate parties to take decisions independently in accordance with their political identities.

Accordingly, the National Freedom Front yesterday (19) wrote to the speaker, informing him that it had left the CC and its steering committee.

Sumantiran 670px 16 01 17But, the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Communist Party of Sri Lanka and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya have decided to remain.

These decisions were taken following lengthy discussions at a meeting of the JO’s leaders on the previous day.

‘NFF’s withdrawal is not disruption’

Meanwhile, TNA’s M.A. Sumanthiran said the NFF’s withdrawal would not affect affairs of the council.
