Champika to fine garbage collectors! Featured

A decision has been made to fine environmental cleaning contractors Rs. 100,000 if they fail to collect garbage on time, said Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The Minister had made this comment to a weekend newspaper.

He said these cleaning contractors were required to collect garbage twice a day and failure to collect garbage that is accumulated in-between would result in them being fined.

The Army will be deployed to inspect the garbage collecting procedures.

According to the Minister, currently three companies are responsible for garbage collection while two of them are private companies.

According to the collection schedule, three days have been allocated for collection of degradable garbage while one day has been allocated for the collection of polythene and plastic. One other day has been allocated for the collection of sanitary napkins, pampers etc.

These collections are scheduled to take place between 4.00 am to 6.30 am and 4.00 pm to 6.30 pm.
