Mathews to resign! Featured

Anjelo Mathews has informed the Sri Lanka Cricket selection committee orally that he will resign as captain of the national team, say SLC sources.

SLC has called a media briefing today (12), where his decision is expected to become public.

Anjelo’s captaincy had been under strong criticism through social media following Sri Lanka’s first ever one-day series defeat to Zimbabwe.

That came after an Upul Tharanga led team without Anjelo, Dinesh Chandimal and Lasith Malinga won an away series against the same opposition.

However, the team with the seniors returning, failed to win against Zimbabwe on home soil.

Previously, Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the second round of the Champions Trophy tournament, while all other Asian teams advanced.

Also, Sri Lanka lost several games during a home series against Bangladesh.
