Mahinda worried by top prelates’ declaration! Featured

Ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa is greatly worried by the unanimous declaration by the three Buddhist Chapters that it is ‘wholly inappropriate to formulate a new constitution that will create non-existent problems,’ a joint opposition MP told Sri Lanka Mirror.

He is so concerned by the decision taken in Kandy by the top Buddhist prelates after discussing matters, because he suspects that will discourage opportunities to abolish the presidency through a new constitution and weaken incumbent Maithripala Sirisena, said the MP.

New constitution, a certainty

‘No change in govt. decision’

However, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told a water supply project opening in Mannar yesterday (07) that there would be no change in the government decision to introduce a new constitution.

If there is any change at all, that will be done at the request of the people only, he stressed.

The government will act according to the public mandate it has received and will always appear for fulfilling their aspirations, the PM added.
