Part of work on Uma Oya project halted

The government has decided to immediately halt work on one side of Uma Oya project, said minister Mahinda Amaraweera at a media briefing today (07).

The president has ordered the work stoppage on a decision taken by a parliamentary subcommittee inquiring into the project.

Amaraweera said work on the remaining part too, would stop, once measures were taken to rectify a risky situation.

The project will resume by mid-August on a decision to be given by Norwegian government experts who would inspect it after July 31, he added.
