Army to assist in dengue eradication Featured

Health authorities are to obtain the support of members of the Army to destroy mosquito breeding places.

They note that the piling up of garbage to block the flow of water and the recent heavy rains have resulted in an increase in the breeding of dengue virus carrying mosquitoes.

Twenty teams of soldiers will be sent to locations in Colombo district which have been identified as major mosquito-breeding areas.

The National Dengue Prevention Unit reports more than 70,000 dengue patients and 215 deaths this year, compared to 55,000 patients in 2016.
