Wild jumbos to be driven away before Suriyawewa game Featured

A herd of around 30 wild elephants are to be driven away from the area before the third one-day international against Zimbabwe at Suriyawewa stadium in Hambantota on July 06.

The decision has been taken in view of spectator security at the day-night game, also because the floodlights could agitate the wild jumbos.

These elephants have become stranded as they have been denied the use of three natural corridors between Yala and Udawalawe national parks across Bundala due to the constructions made during the previous regime without considering the adverse impact on environment.

Already, the lives of many humans and wild elephants have been lost due to the situation.
