Muslim marriage law needs to be ‘modernized’ Featured

Their call came during a meeting they had with US ambassador Atul Keshap who visited Batticaloa for an Iftar ceremony.

Female Muslim activists have been calling for a revision of the act, and a committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Salim Marsook was appointed around nine years ago to recommend amendments.

But, that committee has not yet been able to submit a report owing to protests by Jamiyyathul Ulama, Thowheed Jamath and other Muslim organizations.
