14 arrested for creating communal, religious divisions Featured

Fourteen persons have been arrested on suspicion of having created divisions between the communities and religions, says police spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody.

They include a Buddhist monk, a policeman, two Muslims and a Tamil.

The monk and a majority of the Sinhalese under arrest are directly linked to Bodu Bala Sena, said the DIG at a media briefing at the Government Information Department today (18).

He went onto say that investigations were continuing to arrest seven others, including another monk.

Jayakody added that several politicians too, were under investigation for having made remarks that threaten communal and religious harmony.

They will be dealt with in accordance with the advice given by the attorney general, he said.
