Northern Chief Minister Sivajilingam?

There is a great possibility that M.K. Sivajilingam may be appointed as the Northern Province Chief Minister, it is reported.

Around 21 members of the Northern Provincial Council had met the Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray yesterday (14) and handed over a no confidence motion against C.V. Wigneswaran and wanted him removed from his post as the Chief Minister.

It is also reported that so far around 26 members of the Northern Provincial Council have expressed their support to Sivajilingam.

Special meeting of ITAK

Meanwhile, ITAK is expected to hold a special meeting this morning (15).

However, it is reported that a group of MP’s of the Northern Province are planning to bring in Sivajilingam as the Chief Minister of the NP.

The Northern MP’s in their no confidence motion have expressed their opposition to the decision taken by Wigneswaran to ban the membership of two of the Northern Provincial Councillors for a month based on a report allegedly stating false accusations of fraud and corruption. Wigneswaran had appointed a committee to probe fraud and corruption in the Northern Provincial Council.
