This came to light when the related court case was taken up at the Gampaha magistrate’s court today (14).
Five days after the incident, on 01 August 2013, the Army commander appointed a six-member tribunal to investigate the shooting.
After an investigation, the tribunal found Brig. Gunwardena guilty and recommended that he be demoted.
However, the Army commander has not acted upon that tribunal ruling.
Brig. Gunawardena has been remanded until June 28.
