Journalist who doesn’t know the language gets CID order in Sinhala! Featured

The CID on June 06 sent an order, in Sinhala, to Jaffna-based journalist Wasantha Reuban, who cannot understand the language, according to lankadaily.com.

The website says it is hilarious that the police knew his residential address, but was unaware that he did not know Sinhala.

The letter says if he failed to appear before the CID on June 12, he will be punishable under clause 172 of the Penal Code.

The CID can now punish him, saying his ignorance of Sinhala is no reason for his ignorance of the law, as he did not appear before it as ordered, Lankadaily goes onto say.

This has paved the way for an opportunity to explain to the Sinhalese as to what problems the Tamils of the north encounter due to their ethnicity.

Another question is as to why the police could not go to Jaffna to question him rather than summoning him to Colombo.

He is not an accused and the police only want certain information he has, according to the website.

Given below is the CID letter
