LRC blamed for landslide deaths at Mawathawatte Featured

The Land Reform Commission stands accused of having distributed a landslide-prone land among the people in Palindanuwara.

The warning of landslides at Mawathawatte alias Panadandukanda was made in 1983 after a crack and a blow up was reported from the site, the National Building Research Organization’s Kalutara district officer Harsha Ekanayake said.

The recent landslide there left 10 dead.

After the LRC distributed the land, the rubber trees there had been uprooted, causing the water to be absorbed and triggering landslides, Ekanayake said.

The NBRO will submit a detailed report in this regard soon.
