‘PM went overseas for medical treatment’

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is presently overseas for medical treatment, but he gets in contact with his office and inquires about the country’s situation following the inclement weather conditions, said minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

Speaking to journalists yesterday (30), Senaratne said the PM had delayed seeking medical attention for around 18 months.

Meanwhile, at a media briefing at the SLFP headquarters on the same day, minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said the premier, before leaving the country, had allotted around Rs. two billion for disaster relief activities.

On the previous day, the disaster relief committee that was chaired by the PM allotted the money and also decided to implement two concessionary loan schemes for the upliftment of the economy of those affected.

He has instructed the Central Bank governor to inform state and commercial banks about these loan schemes.
