Adverse weather continues

The prevailing weather has affected several areas especially the districts of Galle Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura.

Heavy rains over 150mm are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central & North West provinces. Meanwhile, 196.7mm rain has been reported in Ratnapura in the last 21 hours.

The Centre for Disaster Management has announced that the Navy and Air Force have already been deployed for evacuations and relief operations.

Meanwhile Kalu, Nilwala & Gin rivers have spilled over. The Kelani river is also close to the spill level and people in river banks are advised to take precautionary measures.

Schools closed
All schools in Sabaragamuwa province will be closed today, due to the flood situation.

Landslides
Meanwhile, a landslide has been reported in 'Morawaka - kanda' hill area in Deniyaya - Matara.

Another landslide reported in Bogahawatta - Bulathsinhala in Kalutara; One person hospitalised. Meanwhile, one person has been declared as missing in Beliatta due to floods.

Meanwhile, two women had died when a boundary wall and a soil embankment collapsed on a house in Sapugaskanda - Heiyanthuduwa.
