Group of doctors leaves country as soon as appointments received!

Out of 1,500-1,600 doctors who graduated from the medical schools each year, about 250 leave the service, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. G. Wijesuriya said.

He pointed out that doctors leave the service in search of foreign employment, private sector employment, their inability to work in remote areas and based on other reasons.

However, Dr. Wijesuriya emphasized that 250 doctors out of 1500-1600 leaving the service annually will not have a severe impact on the service at government hospitals, and that these doctors going for foreign employment amidst an economic crisis is an opportunity to generate more income for the country.
