Gotabhaya meets Modi!

During cordial discussions between visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday night, former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had also met the Indian Premier, said Uditha Lokubandara of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media unit.

The meeting held at the Indian High Commissioner’s residence at 10.00 on Thursday night, former Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris was also present.

According to Lokubandara, it was purely a cordial conversation and nothing of significance was discussed at this meeting.

Not in the agenda:

Modi who arrived in Sri Lanka to participate in the International Vesak celebrations had met with Mahinda Rajapaksa subsequent to attending the official dinner hosted by President Sirisena at the Presidential Palace.

However, the meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was not included in the Indian Premier’s agenda.

During a media briefing held with regard to the Indian Premier’s visit to Sri Lanka, responding to a question posed by a journalist on what was discussed between Rajapaksa and Modi, Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu said the two had very cordial discussions.

“The former President expressed gratitude to India for the assistance given to Sri Lanka in the past and at present,” he said.
The press briefing was coordinated by the Spokesman of the Indian Foreign Ministry Gopal Baglay.
