Modi was received on arrival at the airport for the visit yesterday (11) by prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several ministers.
Thereafter, the Indian PM opened the Vesak zone at Gangarama Vihara, where he received blessings of Buddhist monks, said Indian high commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
After being hosted to dinner by president Maithripala Sirisena at President’s House, Modi had the unscheduled meeting with Rajapaksa.
HC Sandhu told the media that the two had cordial discussions, and that Rajapaksa thanked India for the support was giving to Sri Lanka.
Indian foreign ministry spokesman Gopal Baglay led the media briefing.
