Chandrika says doesn’t want a divided SLFP Featured

Patron of the SLFP, ex-president Chandrika Kumaratunga says she does not want a division in her party.

Speaking at a media briefing by the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms yesterday (09), Kumaratunga said that at the same time, she did not want to see the party being led by murderers and fraudsters.

The people voted to clean up the party, and notorious murderers and fraudsters’ leaving will brighten up, not harm, the party, she said.

Foreign judges, arrests of soldiers

Answering a question, Kumaratunga said there would be no issue in obtaining the support of foreign judges in court hearings into alleged human rights violations during the war.

It is fair that the Tamils want the assistance of foreign judges, the ex-leaders said, adding that she was making the statement on the basis of justice.

She went onto say that members of the armed forces were facing arrest not due to what they had done during the war, but due to their being used by former top figures in the defence ministry to kill their opponents.
