Main suspect of rape case, nabbed at Galle Face protest site

The main suspect of a rape case pending in the Rantapura High Court, had been arrested while hiding at the Galle Face protest site by the Fort Police.


Police said open warrants were issued against the suspect due to the non-appearance of the case.

The 25-year old suspect, a resident of Ratnapura had been arrested on information that he had been staying at the Galle Face protest site for about 2 months.

The suspect was produced before the Fort Magistrate's Court and remanded.

The Magistrate ordered Prison Superintendent to produce the suspect in the Ratnapura High Court on July 12 and submit a report on July 22.
