This advice is given as the prevailing fuel crisis has worsened over the weeks.
It has been revealed that home births reported from the towns of Pitakotte and Nikaweratiya had taken place due to lack of fuel to get to a hospital.
Therefore, having a jerry can of fuel on standby would ensure that the expectant mother can be taken to hospital by any vehicle nearby, says Chairperson of the Association - Ms. Devika Kodithuvakku.
She emphasized that it is mandatory to give birth at a hospital.
