Army chief decides to retire! Featured

Lt. Gen. Krishantha de Silva has decided to retire once he completes his second service extension on August 21, say Army headquarters sources.

The Army commander has instructed his staff that his official vehicles be returned by May 16.

He had completed the retirement age of 55 years on August 21 last year, but was given one year extension from February 22 that year.

On August 22 last year, he secured a second extension.

De Silva is reportedly eying the position of the chief-of-defence-staff which falls vacant following the retirement of incumbent Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunatilake on July 16.

If he is appointed to that position, Maj. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake is tipped to succeed him as the Army commander.
