The precarious tale of the bombs!

A man has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division in the Ranna area in Hambantota for allegedly supplying bombs to be placed at a private hospital in Narahenpita as well as the All Saints' Church in Borella, a senior police official said.

The suspect was arrested by a special police team yesterday (Jan. 20) in the Ranna area, according to information obtained during the interrogation of the retired Medical Superintendent who was arrested by the Colombo South CID a few days ago and brought to the Colombo Crimes Division for further investigations, the officer said.

Liyanage Dayasena, who has been working as a security guard for about eight years at the doctor's private medical center in Panamura, Embilipitiya, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the setting up of a bomb at a church in Borella and placing a bomb at a private medical center in Narahenpita . During interrogation he had revealed that he had carried out these acts on the advice of the retired doctor.

When the doctor had been questioned by the Colombo Crimes Division Special Police team, he had admitted the charge and had revealed information about the person who had given him the bomb.

It was further revealed during the interrogation of the doctor that a person by the name of Liyanage Dayasena, who had worked as a security officer under him, had introduced him to a person by the name of Ruwan from the Ranna area and he had obtained the bombs from him. According to the police, the suspect doctor had given money from time to time to the person arrested in the Ranna area for the bombs.

The Police officer said that the suspect doctor’s wife had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for Covid and had died due to complications. Hence, he believes that the wife had died due to the negligence of the doctors and his mental state had deteriorated due to this suspicion, making him resort to such actions to put the government into disrepute.

The senior police officer said K.R. Premachandra alias Ruwan arrested in Ranna area in Hambantota was an employee of the Ports Authority and was involved in several crimes. The 55-year-old suspect is being questioned at length, he said.

Special statement from Oshala about his father

However, the doctor's son Oshala Herath addressing a media briefing had stated that some media reports that a stock of weapons had been found in the house of the retired doctor who was arrested in the Piliyandala area in connection with the hand grenade at the All Saints Church in Borella were completely false.
