Number of 30 Cabinet Ministers will remain unchanged - President

Despite many MPs hoping for a cabinet post, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that he is not ready to break the promise given to the people by going beyond the constitutionally approved 30 cabinet ministerial posts.

He said this while speaking at the ceremony to upgrade the Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya in Moneragala into a national school yesterday (7).

He added that every MP is hoping for a cabinet ministerial post.

The President said that carrying out responsibilities was a collective efforts and setbacks should be faced as a team, adding that it was the inefficiency of the person concerned to criticize only the shortcomings without working towards collectively rectifying it.

He noted that he would fulfil his promises to the people disregarding the two years that was wasted due to the Covid pandemic.

The President said that in decision making, officials should only focus on how they can work and not look at how they can shirk their responsibilities using circulars.

President Rajapaksa said that it was the duty of the Members of the Opposition to assist in the decisions taken on behalf of the people and stressed the need for all Members of Parliament and Ministers to work together as a team for the progress of the country.
