He said this in his New Year message to the people.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has wished all Sri Lankans a Happy New Year as the country approaches a new year after many defeats, losses and sufferings rather than victories.
The Leader of the Opposition said that apart from extending a heartfelt congratulations in accordance with his conscience, he believed that it was an insult to the people of Sri Lanka to make empty wishes for a false fairytale world for the people of Sri Lanka who are still suffering.
He reiterated that the time has come to reflect on the rise of various countries in the world from the ashes in the face of various disasters and that the ultimate opportunity has come to act responsibly in the name of the more than two million people of this country and future generations.
Premadasa said that in a time of adversity, nature had quietly taught all the people of the world a new lesson to ponder on.
The Opposition Leader also said that the new year should be transformed into a new beginning with a sense of urgency.
