President scraps Ravi’s proposal

President Maithripala Sirisena has objected to a proposal by Finance minister - Ravi Karunanayake concerning liquor permits.

The minister has proposed before the Cabinet to reduce the required distance from a liquor store to schools and Temples when issuing liquor permits.

The current required distance is 500m and the minister had requested to reduce it to 100m.

However, the president has scrapped the proposal after objecting to it.
