Public Security Secretary Sudath suspended; No action against Fisheries Ministry Secretary Nelson over LTTE gold excavation racket

It is reported that steps have been taken to suspend the Coordinating Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security Sudath Jayasinghe who is alleged to have tried to secretly recover a stock of gold buried in the Pudukuduirippu area.

The stock of gold buried in the Pudukuduirippu area in Mullaitivu was scheduled to be recovered on the order of the Mullaitivu Court on the 25th. It has now been revealed that the Public Security Minister’s Coordinating Secretary Sudath and Fisheries Minister’s Coordinating Secretary Nelson Edirisuriya had sought the assistance of the Pudukuduirippu OIC on the 23rd in excavating the gold before the court date.

The Puthukudiirippu OIC had informed a senior police officer, who is a relative of the Minister of Public Security and the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Jagath Alwis had summoned a report from the Senior DIG in charge of the Northern Province regarding this incident.

However, it is reported that Nelson Edirisuriya, the Coordinating Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, is still in service.
