"The Good Governance government, which came to power in 2015, used the Mattala Airport to store paddy to take revenge on the Rajapaksas. They who fell into such a low, then took much loans as possible. There should be something they utilized the funds in. However, they did nothing in return. The Mattala Airport brings foreign exchange to the country. These are assets of our country... The Good Governance government did not have a single development plan or goal," he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the new aircraft apron at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake today (25).
This expansion project, funded by Japan with an investment of Rs. 107 billion, is considered the largest development project since 2014.
The BIA expansion project was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as then President and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2014. However, the former ‘Good Governance’ government suspended the project, but it was resumed after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took office in 2019.
