Wimal skips SLPP convention! Featured

It is reported that the Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa, a partner of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has skipped the 5th National Convention of the SLPP which was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theater yesterday (02).

He had skipped the convention while attending the ground breaking ceremony for a new factory in the Pannala Industrial Estate.

During that event, the media had asked him if it is a drama where he is criticizing the government that he had helped come to power. They also asked him why he is not leaving the government instead of remaining within the government and levelling criticism.

However, Weerawansa responded, “Those who did not have the backbone to stand up against the government they helped to come to power, when the Hambantota port was sold off and participated in secret meetings at Temple Trees cannot understand. What is the point if we can’t stand up against the wrong that is done, just because we are ministers in the government?  They can’t understand that we have the courage to stand up even against our own government when they are wrong because they have never been able to do that.”

When the journalists asked why he had not attended the SLPP Convention, he replied that another leader of the party would be representing the party.
