Basil unmoved; Discussion between PM and party leaders unsuccessful

The discussions between the Prime Minister and SLFPA party leaders regarding the Yugadanavi power plant shares sold to an American company have fallen through.

At a press conference at the end of the meeting, the party leaders said further discussion will be held once the President returns to the island.

Parties within the alliance have continued to voice protests over the sale of shares to an American company.

However, Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa and others have stated that this investment by the American company would bring US$ 250 Mn to Sri Lanka.

The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has stated that his party is not in support of this move, adding that it would pave the way for the energy monopoly of Sri Lanka belonging to a foreign country.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the Prime Minister took a non-committal stance at the discussion.

The parties hope to forward a signed letter detailing their stance to the President.
