Chinese company gifts Mercedes Benz to minister Featured

The Chinese company constructing the Matara-Hambantota highway has given a duty-free Mercedes Benz it had imported, to a government minister, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

The China National Aero-Technology International Engineering cannot be given duty concessions for the vehicles it imports for purposes relating to the road construction work.

The Benz has been exempted from duty on a written directive by the Finance Ministry to the Customs.

The letter given below is the one sent by the Chinese company to the senior project manager of the RDA, seeking tax exemption for the car.
