It is said that the tax would be made compulsory from Jan. 31 2022.
According to media reports, Dambulla Mayor Jaliya Opatha has informed the Municipal Councilors in a leaflet that he intends to make the relevant proposal at the Dambulla Municipal Council General Meeting.
It is said that under powers vested in him as the Mayor of the Municipal Council, he is also to increase taxes in the area.
It is reported that the taxes will be increased from 50% - 100% while businessmen will be taxed more under 150 items.
Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', the Dambulla mayor said Taxes such as the dog tax had been in existence although it was not implemented before.
He also said that taxed have been slashed by 50% and not increased as claimed.
