Several persons including IUSF convener arrested

Police have arrested several persons, including student activists and the Inter-University Student’s Federation (IUSF) Convener - Wasantha Mudalige over their involvement in the protest near the parliament on Aug. 03rd.
Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana has stated to the media that Mudalige and the Chairman of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Students Federation - Amila Sandeepa were arrested last evening (05).
In addition, the drivers of 03 vans who had transported people from various parts of the island to attend the protest have also been arrested.
‘People were transported from Medirigiriya, Tissamaharama and Peradeniya,’ the Police Spokesperson has said, adding that they had breached the provincial travel restriction.
The arrests were made by the Thalangama Police and they will be produced in court on Friday (06).
Abduction attempts
Meanwhile, 'JDS Lanka' had Tweeted that Mudalige had been abducted in front of the Sri Jayawardenapura University by men in plain clothes arriving in a blue van. It adds that police stations in Mirihana, Thalangama and Cinnamon Gardens have all denied arresting anyone.
It further adds that a lecturer attached to the Sri Jayawardenapura University - Aminda Lakmal, had been travelling in a bus when university students and academics had thwarted an attempt made by a group of men in plain clothes abduct him.
Also, the feed also notes that Mudalige was arrested by police while leaving the Sirasa TV studio after taking part in a TV talk show on militarisation of higher education.
