Under the new bill, the exiting fine of Rs 5000 imposed on the violators is expected to be increased to Rs 100,000.
Besides, fines will be imposed on those who use outdated environmental certificates. The bill also clearly gives clear interpretations on wetlands _ which has been a long-felt need.
Environment Ministry secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe has said the draft bill contains new regulations covering chemical hazards management.
The draft bill is to be presented to the parliament shortly.
