Kurunegala mayor's cake cutting

Earlier today, footage emerged of Kurunegala mayor Thushara Sanjeewa cutting a birthday cake when he had visited the Kurunegala police which was conducting a pirith chanting.
Kurunegala HQI and the Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kurunegala District were also present during the occasion.
Commenting on this, DIG Ajith Rohana said that although police stations were informed on regional levels to hold things like pirith chantings in line with religious activities, this event that had taken place in between cannot be approved at all and strict measures will be taken against those who were involved.

"I received the footage early this morning and talked with the Senior DIG of the NorthWestern Province - Nandana Munasinghe. He was also aware of this. Under the supervision of the Senior DIG, a police team led by an SP has been appointed to probe into the event. An inquiry is underway on this incident flouting quarantine laws. It is also something that should not have been done with the involvement of the police," he said.
