Moratuwa Mayor remanded until June 11 (Update)

(Update) - Moratuwa Mayor - Samanlal Fernando has been remanded until June 11.

He was produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate's Court today (28), after he surrendered to the police and was subsequently arrested.

Moratuwa Mayor arrested

Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando has been arrested for his unruly behaviour during a OVID-19 vaccination drive organized in Moratumulla yesterday (27).

The Police said the Mayor was arrested after surrendering to the Mount Lavinia Police today.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member is accused of obstructing the duties of a medical officer at the vaccination programme, anf pressurizing the officials to give priority to those he had given tokens to.

Footage of Mr. Fernando getting loud at the venue emerged yesterday, sparking public ire and disgust.

The female medical officer had thereafter filed a complaint at the Mount Lavinia Police against the Mayor, accusing him of making threats and obstructing her from carrying out her duties.
