21,000 backlog of PCR tests: Pavithra order to clear it by Monday

A massive backlog of 21,000 PCR samples is existing at government labs and it is hampering the moves to contain the virus, sources said.

It is learnt that Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has ordered the senior health officials to take swift measures to clear the backlog by Monday.

Sources say the government has about 37 PCR machines while the private sector has about 30 such machines.

The PHI Association has been expressing concerns over the last few days over the delay of the results of the PCR tests.

PHI Association has been saying that they receive the results of at least three days old tests and this is a hindrance to contain the spreading of the virus.
