He was speaking at the inauguration of the citizens’ campaign for clean politics organized by March 12 Movement at Independence Square in Colombo today (12).
The top prelate also strongly denounced how MPs were behaving in parliament, noting that exchanging blows, words and filth has become an everyday happening where dignity was no more.
He asked as to why such persons were elected and as to what has happened to the country.
Wimalaratana Thera went onto say that nearly 60 political parties were already registered, while more than 100 others were awaiting registration.
“Sri Lanka is a country that supplies jokes to the world. What a joke it is for so many of parties to seek registration in this small country?”
Local government bodies have become inactive due to the elections not being held, he said, adding that the elections would not take place this year.
