All in-patients at the hospital have been transferred to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital today.

 

Although the Hingurakgoda Base hospital was designated as a COVID-19 treatment centre, it was functioning as a normal hospital so far, with patients transferred to the Base Hospitals in Medirigiriya or Polonnaruwa for further treatment.

 

According to Dr. Kumarawansa, the hospital has been prepared to treat 200 COVID-19 patients deploying the entire medical staff.

 

Meanwhile, a ward building at the Medirigiriya Base hospital too, is to be refurbished to be used as a COVID-19 treatment centre.
