2 priests arrested over health violations

The Jaffna Police have arrested two chief priests of the Jaffna Sri Kamatchi Amman Kovil in Vannarpannai on charges of conducting a Theru festival without obtaining prior permission in violation of health guidelines.

The priests were arrested after Police were informed through the Jaffna COVID-19 Task Force that received a number of complaints.

The arrests were made on charges of unlawful gathering at the Kovil disregarding health guidelines.

The priests have been released on bail and will be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today.

Police said members of the Kovil organizing and management committees and instrumentalists at the Kovil will be directed to undergo PCR tests through area Public Health Inspectors.
