Army chief urges people not to leave isolated areas

Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva on Wednesday urged the people in isolated areas not to leave their homes, warning that the army too would be deployed to prevent such incidents in the isolated areas.
HIs comments came as the government isolated six more areas on Wednesday morning in view of the COVID-19 cases are detected across the country.

Media reported that some people in the isolated areas had left their homes after their villages were isolated, despite police officers being deployed in those areas.

Gen. Silva said army soldiers will also be deployed in the future in those areas.
Gen. Silva said four areas in Monaragala, one in Ampara and another in Matale were isolated from this morning.
Accordingly, Wellawaya Urban council area, Weherayaya, Kottangaha and Rajagahagama in Monaragala were isolated. Besides, Kumarigama in Ampara and Alugolla in Matale were also isolated from this morning.
Gen. Silva asked people to stay at their homes after their areas were isolated.
