Police officer who swallowed bribe, remanded Featured

A Chief Inspector of Police, attached to the Weliweriya Police Station, soliciting a bribe of Rs.10,000.

Gampaha Magistrate - Manjula Karunaratne has ordered Mahara Prison officers to produce him before courts on April 08 and to hold him in remand custody until then.

The police officer is charged with soliciting a bribe from a businessman operating a hotel in the Weliweriya area.

Bribery Commission officials informed court that the police CI had swallowed the money upon learning of his impending arrest and was later admitted to the Gampaha General Hospital in order to retrieve the money.

Accordingly, the magistrate had visited the hospital and ordered to remand the suspect.
