If 10 marks deducted, the result would be same as last year - Exam chief

Examination Commissioner General Sanath Pujitha says his department is not in a position to reduce the cut off marks for leading schools following the Grade 5 scholarship examination Referring to protests being carried out by the parents and teachers' unions, the commissioner said cut off marks were increased because the children have obtained high marks this year and the pass rate has gone up.

He also rejected the accusation that his department had ignored due procedures  when the test paper was prepared and also did not closely inspect the grammatical mistakes during the paper marking process.He said the parents and teachers' unions should have first inquired from the teachers who took part in the paper marking before making any allegations.

Pujitha also said the result would be the same as last years if 10 marks were deducted from the current marks obtained by the students.
