Additional powers to be granted to magistrates Featured

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure Act in order to vest additional powers to magistrates.

Accordingly, the proposal to vest powers to magistrates to appoint a judicial division to visit a police station at least once a month in order to supervise a suspect in police custody has been approved.

According to the proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice, the document drafted by the legal draftsman will be gazetted and presented in Parliament following the Cabinet approval.
