Scam in electronic identity card tender! Featured

The tender for the supplying of the new electronic identity cards has been awarded to a company that has not submitted the required specifications, and despite objections raised by a majority of members in the tender board.

Questions have also been raised over the sudden awarding of the tender, even as the COPE and the auditor general’s department are investigating the matter.

There had been low bids of around Rs. 42 per identity card, but the winner has placed a high bid of Rs. 72.

The company is yet to submit its certificates either to fulfill tender requirements that the identity card should be made 100 per cent of polycarbonate and should have the ISO certification.
