SC orders Pujith to pay Rs.25,000 to IP

The Supreme Court yesterday ordered former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and three other Police officers to pay Rs.25,000 each to a Police Inspector from their personal funds for violation of Fundamental Rights.

Inspector Wickramage Stanley Perera had filed a Fundamental Rights petition in 2016 challenging the continued harassment and unjustified transfers by several respondents including the National Police Commission.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court further ordered the National Police Commission to reinstate the Petitioner with effect from 17.03.2017 with all back wages, and increments.

The Petitioner is entitled to all the promotions due to him as he was considered as in active service since 17.03.2017.
